"I'm scared for her. She's got a lot of people around her... that's putting her in a great deal of danger," Cyrus tells GQ. "I know she's 18, but I still feel like, as her daddy, I'd like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute. When you go through what she's been through, it takes a beating on you."
In the long interview, Cyrus told reporter Chris Heath that he blames the Disney show "Hannah Montana" for the current trouble in his family, which includes his divorce from wife Tish, according to PopEater.com.
After TMZ obtained video of Miley smoking from a bong in December 2010, Billy Ray took to his Twitter, saying, "I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself," and, "I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now." Billy Ray and Miley's mom, Tish, separated in late October 2010.
In the video, shot five days after Miley celebrated her 18th birthday, the teen star is shown experimenting with a bong at her Los Angeles home, but sources say she was not smoking marijuana.
"Okay, I'm about to lose it now," the starlet says after taking a hit from the bong. "I'm having a little bit of a trip right now."
Sources said the smoke inside the bong was a legal herb called salvia, which reportedly has psychedelic qualities.
Billy Ray says in the GQ interview that the biggest mistake he made was trying to be too much of a friend to Miley.
