Is there such a thing as a better-conception sex position?
Ever heard of the Slippery Tilt? What about the Orgasmic Swallow?
It's fun to talk about both the long-held or newly-minted ideas of which sex positions supposedly increase your chances for getting pregnant. But is it fact or fiction that any one sex position can aid in conception?
"The strategy is to move the starting line as close as you can to the finish line, and give the sperm a downhill racing slope," says Dr. Sadie Allison, a sex and relationship expert at TickleKitty.com, and author of "Ride 'Em Cowgirl! Sex Position Secrets For Better Bucking!"
Dr. Allison says you want a position that gives the deepest penetration and most favorable gravity. She recommends two positions in particular:
1. The Slippery Tilt. "Immediately after he climaxes inside you, lie on your back and elevate your hips slightly with a small pillow for about 15 minutes. This will send more sperm to mill around the entrance to your cervix."
2. The Orgasmic Swallow. "The rhythmic, orgasmic pulsations inside your vagina can draw the slippery semen deeper inside. So no matter which position you choose, squeeze your pelvic muscles rhythmically during climax and pump it inward."
We asked OB/GYN and momlogic advisory member Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz if there is medical evidence to prove that any one position is more effective in efforts to get pregnant.
"The best position is the one you enjoy the most," says Dr. Gilberg-Lenz. "They don't teach this in medical school, and I haven't seen any research. You don't have to lay there -- the swimmers know what to do; it's their job. Even when we inseminate, we only have them hang out for 20 minutes because it seems to make them feel better."
