Eat these foods to help get pregnant, say experts.

If you are what you eat, and you want to be fertile because you want to be pregnant, it's time to eat fertility-enhancing foods.
From snacks to fertility super foods, think of what you eat as the building blocks -- the foundation -- of your pregnancy. "I always tell my clients that in order to get pregnant we need a place to house a baby," says Haylie Pomroy, author of "Craving Conception" and nutritional counselor specializing in fertility and pregnancy. "To build a house for that baby, you have to have the right 'bricks,' and those bricks are food."
Fertility super foods are not exotic or hard-to-find specialty foods, and they are not fancy cuisine nor do they require time-consuming meal planning and preparation. Fertility-enhancing foods are typical of everyday healthy food choices. Pomroy recommends avocado, nuts, and nut butters, and healthy fats like olive oil or grapeseed oil. Of course there is much more, and complete food lists are available at Pomroy's website at www.hayliepomroy.com.
To really prepare a body for pregnancy, Pomroy also often starts her clients off on their conception journey with a cleanse to create a clean "house." A typical fertility cleanse lasts 10 to 14 days. "It takes time to clean out all the garbage and create a space for conception to happen," explains Pomroy. "It's a short process, and then when your doctor says 'jump' the body has the resources to say 'how high?'"
And which foods inhibit fertility? Pomroy steers clients away from dairy because of estrogen content, which interferes with fertility. In meats, antibiotics are more of an issue, so go organic. She also wants you to avoid soy-based products. "Our bodies respond to things, often knocking our hormones out of whack, and I'm trying to keep you balanced and remove stressors from your diet," she says.
Pomroy also advises against anything fat-free. "If it says 'no' or 'non' or 'free' on it, don't eat it. There's a nutrient in those products that disrupts egg production."
In her book, Pomroy has a complete list of foods titled "Frisky Snacks to Fertility-Friendly Super Foods" that she says you can incorporate immediately into your diet.
