Korto: Graduation day finally dawned upon me! Guess what was one of my presents ... a night in the emergency room. Yeah, you heard right ... a night in the emergency room! I spent seven hours in the emergency room the night of my graduation. Not much of a graduation present.

It all began a few days earlier when I came down with a cold. I was especially concerned for my baby, so I called my doctor and he assured me that it was normal to experience colds during pregnancy, but if I came down with a fever I should immediately contact him. He suggested that I take Tylenol as needed and reassured me it wouldn't harm the baby. I'm not big on medication -- especially while I'm pregnant -- so I passed on the Tylenol. However, a couple of days later, on the day of my graduation, my symptoms escalated from cold symptoms to fever-like symptoms: body aches and cold chills (no fever). After the ceremony, I went to bed, hoping I could rest it off, but soon realized I needed medical attention.

I arrived at the emergency room around 12 AM, and a few tests later, I was diagnosed with a UTI. According to the doctor, it is common in pregnant women within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. Anyways, I was prescribed antibiotics which are deemed safe for the baby and I'm to take them for seven days. Yuck! I seriously dislike medication. But of course I have to do it for my health, and most importantly, the health of my baby.
