Korto: Last week, I paid another visit to the ER. This time, I thought my world was coming to an end. I was cramping and spotting. It all started after a pretty busy day of work, laundry, cleaning, bible study, and class (I'm taking up a summer class). In the beginning of the day, I was feeling some mild period-like cramping. By midday, the cramping grew worse, so I went online to look up what could be wrong. I found out that (period-like) cramping, in the early stage of pregnancy, is normal; it is due to the uterus stretching and preparing for your growing baby. So I didn't pay much attention to it after that. However, later that night when I tried using the bathroom, I noticed spotting, similar to that at the end of my period. Immediately I was alarmed and decided to go to the emergency room.
Upon my arrival at the ER, blood work, a sonogram, and a Pap was done. The doctor told me it was a "threatened miscarriage," which means I could have lost the baby. She advised me to slow down and get plenty of rest. This was an eye opener for me. Because I suffer from what I call a "super woman" syndrome, I feel as though I always need to have a lot going on at one time to feel accomplished. I took my doctor's advice; I quit my job and have since been trying to get plenty of rest.
