Meredith: I am back!!! I flew home from L.A. on a red-eye on Tuesday/Wednesday. The flight home was crazy, a baby cried for four straight hours. All I could think was I wished I was that mom getting all of the dirty looks from passengers. How I want a baby ... even if it cries for 4 straight hours.
I digress ... my trip was amazing!! I met all the girls that will be participating in the Conception Diaries with me. Each one of them was fabulous in their own different way. We all met in the hotel lobby to powwow before dinner. I was extremely nervous because I was late getting to the hotel and didn't want to be the odd woman out. I was sure they had already gotten to know each other and I would be an afterthought -- forever known as the late one. BUT, they didn't make me feel that way at all. They were all so welcoming and wonderful.
First impressions -- Korto (educated, warm, exotic looking), Absidi (sweet, young, and giving), Wendy (amazing smile, kind-hearted, and the kind of person you could talk to for hours), Anh-Chi (fashionably fabulous, beautiful, funny). Absidi was the first to break the ice by gifting us all with sex toys. They were not toys as much as they were edible products. In my opinion there is nothing better than white chocolate flavored body power. My husband and I are sure to enjoy the items. Thanks Absidi!!
Back to my story. After meeting in the lobby, we all walked across the street to this cozy French restaurant. Once the wine started flowing, the conversation started pouring out. We all talked about our different experiences and our struggles to get pregnant. Each one of our stories were so different but they all had similarities as well. We really got to know each other and spent a lot of time laughing and joking with each other. The food being good was just an added perk to the already great night. That first evening I was so excited and giddy about our next exciting day I could hardly sleep.
We got up early to go to the "Extra" set. That's right ... THE "Extra" set. It was surreal to know that we would be filming there and getting our hair and makeup done as well. We were all on the lookout for celebrities, but I don't think any of us were as excited as Absidi was. Thank goodness we didn't run into Mario Lopez, I am sure he would have been trampled by the herd of us. So, we got there and were put in the Green Room. A waiting room of sorts. Now I have heard people refer to Green Rooms in the past, and just so everyone knows, the room was not green. I know ... shocking, right? So, we sat and chatted the morning away while we waited to get our hair and makeup done. We were all so super excited and continued to talk to each other and find out more about each of us. Our producer, Jen (who is amazing), kept coming by and reminding us to save our questions and energy for the set. How on earth could you possibly contain the excitement of 5 women? Not a chance in hell! Getting my hair and makeup done was such a cool experience. I really did feel like a movie star. Each experience was better than the last. My hair looked so much better than I could have ever done it and my makeup really was stunning. Not to toot my own horn, but ... I looked hot! So did each of the other girls.
After we were each done up we got an opportunity to meet the doctor that would be answering our questions on set. He was so nice and knowledgeable. He really had no idea what he was in for. All of us had an arsenal of questions and were prepared to fire away.
Once on set, we each got wired and miked up. We were placed in our seats and got ready to film. The shoot would be broken into different segments. I was so excited!!! Now a little bit about me ... I generally have a hard time censoring what I say and usually do not filter anything that comes out of my mouth. I try very hard to think before I speak, but sometimes it doesn't work out. This shoot was the first time I was encouraged to say exactly what I was feeling and ask all the questions that were on my mind. I held very little back. I had moments where I made the doctor blush and had the guys on set flabbergasted by my questions and comments. This was my opportunity to finally get all my questions answered by a doctor that was not counting the minutes until his next appointment. The girls and I had such a good time with the doctor. He was so kind and patient with all of us. Not once did he balk at any of our questions. I don't want to ruin the video, so I won't spoil it by spilling any of the questions that were asked. Let me just tell you ... we held nothing back.
After we were all done with the shoot we got our head shots done. The day was definitely a whirlwind. However, it was the best whirlwind I have ever had. Everyone that was there made it special. This journey is going to be very memorable and I can't wait to share the highs and lows with everyone.
I got home from L.A. on Wednesday, and Thursday morning I was on another plane. My son had his 5th grade trip to Washington, D.C. Since getting back from L.A., I have been video diarying as much as I can. So now the journey starts and I wish us all baby dust and lots and lots of fun practicing!
