I know that the doctors say that you're supposed to eat enough for your baby's nutrients, but I'm scared to death of gaining too much weight and not being able to work it off. Help!

i was 10 pounds over weight when i got pregnant and gained 28 at the end of my term. i lost quite a bit after my son was born and the last few a few months later. i started working out 4 weeks after my son was born and i was still breast feeding. i would not reccomend it b/c i stopped producing milk when he was 2 and half months old and i regreted focusing on my weight sooo much as i loved breast feeding. you only need about 300 extra caleries a day when pregnant but if you want more that is fine. eat right most of the time, do treat your cravings and keep active. most of all enjoy it. it is soo short!
I am not bragging, but I ate whatever I wanted. Junk Food, Healthy Food, Whatever. My craving was milk. Like 3-4 Gallons per week. I gained 32 pounds and I lost 36 pounds 2 weeks after he was born. I am now smaller than I was before I got pregnant. The moral to my babble is: EAT, EAT, EAT AND ENJOY BEING PREGNANT!!! That was the the part I loved the most. THE WEIGHT DOES COME OFF.
I gained 60 pounds with both of my pregnancies, the first one, I ate a bunch of junk food, and it took a year to take off the weight, with my 2nd one, I ate fruits, veggies, very few sweets, and lost the weight before my daughter was 4 months old. By the way, my son is a junk food junkie and my daughter prefers fruits and veggies.
when I became pregnant I was 115 and my son is know 3 mos old and I am 117, I did a low carb diet while pregnant, dont cut all your carbs! this can be unhealthy, I use to eat the diet of a diabetic 30 carbs wich the 3 main meals and 15 for 3 snack in between, walking also helps a lot especially gets you into shape for labor. the main thing is fluids! I use to drink a lot of diet snapple taste good and only one carb per bottle!
That's right you don't have to eat for two. In the beginning my Dr. use to tell me that I could feed my baby with the leftovers in my teeth. Just eat right and healthy and you will be fine. When I first got pregnant I was concerned about weight gain b/c I was already like 10 lbs overweight. But its not that bad I gained a total of 20lbs and I lost 25 within the first week of having my baby, but I breastfeed that does help alot with your stomach going down. But when you breastfeed you still have to eat alot of calories and you may keep some weight, its funny b/c I eat more now breastfeeding then when I was pregnant. But Destinyfay gave good advice with drinking alot of fluids. Do plenty of walking the weather is about to get nice, I also did the Dance Dance Revolution game it was doing excerise in a fun way. Good luck!
oh yea.... and its not true, you dont have to "eat for two".... just eat right.
I as well had a very hard time with the weight gain that comes with having a baby. Before my daughter was born I had eating issues and was underweight... and so I had to see a nutritionist and get a meal plan which really wasnt all that bad. And as long as you walk and keep active while pregnant the weight gain shouldnt be that bad. I did however still gain 60lbs, but I was ALL BELLY. After baby was born I lose it quite quickly at first, and then have been working off the last little bit. Breastfeeding also helped, and now that summer is coming, gettin outside more helps too. Continue to eat healthy and you should be fine. How far along are you now??
Oh yes, I also drank a lot of fruit smoothies and healthy milkshakes for meals... they were good. And oatmeal for breakfast, its a filler and quite good for you.
My philosiphy was healthy in + healthy out. Drink plenty of fluids and eat appropriate meals that fulfill your nutrient requirements. Keep ice cream and such a special treat and you really shouldn't have to worry. Eating for 2 doesn't mean, double on your calories. Talk to your doctor about a healthy eating plan if you are really that worried. Be sure exercise regularly, just don't over do it and again drink plenty of fluids. I believe you only need an extra 300(ish) extra calories with a baby on board and if you breast feed you need an extra 500(ish) calories and with breastfeeding you tend to loose the baby weight more quickly. I'll say it one more time talk to your doctor about an exercise and nutrition plan that suits you.
My doctor really pushed fluids, swimming, walking and eating healthy and I lost the weight with my first quickly...the second one I didn't take as good care of myself and it has been harder to loose the weight.
