I am actually planning my son's 1st birthday party too! Remember to keep it simple because your child isn't going to care one way or another. We are going to go to a large park and BBQ hotdog. If you are going to do activites I would base them off of the age of the other kids coming because your child really wont be doing too much.
you can let the kids play musical chairs, bobing for apples, hmmm let me see, lolz. Also they can play hot potatoe and pin the tail on the donky. oh and pinta is a very good idea!!You can sing songs with the kids and buy cds with childrens music.
well, my husband and i decided to have a big cook out at our house. we live in the country so we have a big yard, etc. we had hot dogs and hamburgers but inside i had the theme "finding nemo" and i had baked lots of brownines, cupcakes, sausage balls, pigs in a blanket, and rotel dip in the crock pot. we had friends and family. from both sides so it was big! it was fun though and all enjoyed thereselves. i had made my son his very own cake to tear into and boy did he! we had people inside and out and it was a much enjoyable time! not sure what will do this year as he will be 2 in may. not sure about having that many people but i do not regret doing exactly what we did for his first birthday bash and it was filmed also.
We had hotdogs for my daughters first birthday. Of course, she had no idea what was going on. Our party was kind of the same as Destinyfay..mostly for the grandparents. We did have a smaller version of the big birthday cake though for her to play in and demolish, and boy did she ever. It was everywhere, except in her mouth!
For my son's 1st we had a bar-b-que, cupcakes for everyone & gifts for the older kids. It was mainly for the grandparents, though we had several friends come as well. Light meal with everyone taking pictures.
For the next party which was son's 3rd and daughter's 1st it was on a bigger scale with a pinata.
