Parents argue over the rights of the moms in the polygamist sect situation.
We posted Guilty Moms in Texas Cult?, discussing the controversy regarding the accountability of the mothers in the Texas sect. J.Smith had this to say: "These anti-women, pro-sex-with-young-girls weirdos should be stopped at all costs. Bravo to the government and hopefully this "sect" will be stamped out forever in the not-too-distant future."
John says: "As far as the mothers being victims, then being convicted of complicit rape will help to get them out of the situation as well. In some cases the only way to help people is to remove their rights. Hopefully this does not turn into a witch hunt, and justice is truly served."
To what extremes should the authorities go in this situation?

I think the media made it look like the state made a mess of the hole thing because of the way the kids were spread out and placed so far from there parents. But I think this was smart of them so they had time to show these brain washed kids a little of the out side world were kids have rights and to see that it's not right that young girls are wed to old men or any man they do not wish to, and that its a crime against them if it is done know matter what the elders inside the compound say. Maybe a few will open-up!!!!
i agree w/ the last post. the manner in which these cases are handled will set president and the men who manipulated these poor women should be held accountable.
The texas supreme court ruling today makes me ill. There is no way this abuse should be tolerated in the u.s. It is not a religion, but simply a haven for perverted, abusive men to hide behind!
I feel deeply sorry for the children and woman in this ,what I call a church cult . I feel that they are brain washed to stay in this lifestyle and I also feel it could be dangerous because of what I remember seeing on tv when I was a little girl . I seen on the news something called the jamestown massacre . This was a story about a church group and the leader had killed all the people by poisoning them saying they were forced to drink from a cup in the name of god for the church and I remember to this day the site on the news of people dead all over the grass and I wont forget that . I have nothing against belieaving in god or Jesus but I will not belong to any church group or my children because that stays the memory of what I seen on tv in my mind and very few people I remember got away there were men with guns not letting them leave , so I am thinking about these people in that same way and I never have anything against people wanting to live differnt from others , but I am scared for them ,and feel sorry for them because these groups could become dangerous for them and they are inocent people ,mind driven into this way of life and to me look like very clean people the children are beautifull and look well kept . I just hope that when they investigate everything that these people havent already been hurt by this cult . I had seen a show on Oprah about 6 years ago a young girl had ran away from a way of life like this and she said so much on tv that day I was watching with my kids I commented on it as to why nobody hasnt done anything about this . The young girl had talked about children having babies by cousins and babies being born without eyes and how she had almost got killed trying to run away from these people and leave her family behind . I am happy to hear that the state is investigating this cult maybe it could be the save lives. I know in those western states there are numorous groups like this they should all be checked and also I feel that there should not be differnt types of marriage laws in differnt states there should only be one law for the whole USA . I just dont believe in woman being taken advantage like this by one man we are not with no brain because we are woman and you can survive without having to be ruled by a mans mind this way . I do respect like I said before your right to live how you want . I just hope there are never any inocent people getting hurt anymore in these groups .
I agree with the previos post, most of these women are not educated or no any better. They are suffering with post traumatic stress and are also victims. They are subject to having Stockholm syndrome also and beleive that it is Gods will that these men have the control and are able to do whatever they want with women and children. All we can do is educate and try to inform the women and give them a choice, but if they stay within those walls, they can never be reached. Our only hope is with the children. Dr. Phil had a great episode on members who escaped....and how they are coping and it is a life long struggle. I know some of the kids are now being placed with some local shelters and we as society can give them necessities and try to reach out if necessary to help them all find a normal life. If the women really love their children- they will come out and try to be with their children and see what life can be like...... but that too will be difficult. Trying to find a job with no education and support your children with no skills is not easy out here in the "real world"!
I think judges are going to have to be very careful when considering the moms in this case. Some of these women have never had a life outside of this cult. They were conceived, born and raised inside the walls so they know only what they have been taught, and have been told that they are supposed to be polygamous and marry at 14. I think that they need intensive counseling and education, not prison. Prison, for these women, only proves further that the government is wrong and what they have been taught is right. I am so glad that I am not the one who has to decide their futures. I pray for this whole situation, where I truly feel that it is the men who are completely and totally to blame.
