I am a mom to three Type I diabetics. A son age 13, a daughter age 11, and a younger daughter age 8. My husband also has Type I, and has had it for 32 years. Just try and remember that whatever works one week, may not the next. Do not be hard on yourself, and do not live by blood sugar to blood sugar. Foods that they eat, stress, exercise, just about everything has an effect on their blood sugars. Just remember to count carbs. And anything that has half the amount of carbs in sugar, stay away. It'll catch up with them later. And always remember.... a child with diabetes, is still a child!!!! Take care and good luck! : )
Try to read and learn as much as you can about diabetes. You don't say which type of diabetes she has, but I'll assume it's type 1.
TuDiabetes.com has a group for parents of children with type 1 (http://tudiabetes.com/group/parentsofkidswithtype1). Ask questions there, folks are helpful and supportive.
Learn how to read food labels, they're informative and you'll need the carbohydrate information so she gets the right amount of insulin.
I know this is terrible news for you. I don't know whether it helps, but I've had type 1 diabetes for over 35 years without any major problems. The technology is much better these days, and we all hope and pray for a cure.

Your pediatrician can make you an appointment with a registered dietician and she can help you make a meal plan based on foods your daughter likes. Most diabetics use carb counting instead of sugar avoidance to control blood sugar levels nowadays. The American diabetes web site has lots of good links to recipes and such also.
