I have decided to cut back the amount of television my kids watch and they have picked up new hobbies because of it.

We cut back not only TV but all electronics. During the school week my children are not allowed to use any electronics of any kind, no TV, video games, CD players, DVD players etc. The only exception is if they are using something in a foreign language. The first week was rough they all were not happy about it. Now they are used to it and their language skills are improving too.
