I work in an elementary school and a lot depends on the type of allergy your 1st grader has. If it is a serious allergy like nuts, you need to notify the school. Many times they have a 'nut safe' table at lunchtime. Also, if it is worry and you have an epi-pen, you may want to meet with the teacher, lunchroom, and office staff to make sure they know what a real emergency is and how to handle it.
