There is too much sex on tv! What happened to the old days when there wasn't hardly any on tv? I can't watch a decent tv show without it showing some sex and my 9 yr. old son seeing it, I know I can't sheild him forever but me and my husband will (and are) go to extreme lengths to keep him from seeing nasty stuff on tv or anywhere else for that matter. Back then you had to have HBO, Showtime or Cinnemax if you wanted to see sex shows or movies, but not anymore you see it everywhere now!! Something needs to be done like a bunch or thousands or even millions of people go to the government about it, if you think about it most of the crimes committed are sex related, rapes, molestation, and look how many sexual predators there are on the internet, I don't care if sex sells it needs to be cut out of tv and the internet children don't need to see it!!

Ugh. I hate posts like this. Blame for bad parental control rests squarely on your shoulders, not the media's. 1st amendment grants us a whole lot of freedom to say what we want and express ourselves. People, contrary to popular belief, do NOT have the right to not be offended. If it bothers you so much, join the freaks over at AFA and actually BE one of the people sending thousands (no, millions!) of emails to congress...as you can tell, its done them loads of good so far. Or turn of the damn tv.
its the world becomming comfortable. disney movies have bad words like a!# and h///. not big kid ones either ants and hook, we as a society have become complacint with sex, drugs and rock and roll.
sorry bad joke. but really you do have to just turn the channel if you dont want him to see the stuff, and it is everywhere. i wish we all could make it safe to watch a family show on a friday night again but i dont think that will happen for a long time. just make good choices on what you choose to watch, my family has not had cable for 10 years and we are just fine pbs is great and movies are a good alternitve when a sit down with no worries is requested.
A few suggestions: 1) as a previous commenter suggested, you can use sexual situations on TV to start important discussions with your child about sexuality; 2) TV and other media are not the only sources -- he will hear about sex from neighbor kids, older siblings or cousins, or kids at school/church/etc. The best thing you can do is to give your child the tools to make wise decisions.
I totally agree with the above comment, turn it off if you don't like it! Anyway that why they invented parental controls, duh! It's obvious the people that have a problem are those that have small children...believe me once your children are a little older and you find yourself again you and your partner can enjoy some adult entertainment. Television was not invented to entertain your child.
I agree about turning off the television. I despise American television anyway. We watch very little. When we do use the TV it is usually for videos. We have invested in books and great videos instead. If just love TV and you have a laptop you can access TV shows from Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the UK that have much more family friendly shows they are of course subtitled in English but you can connect your laptop to your TV and watch these family friendly shows for free.
If you care this much, then turn off the TV and play with your kid. Or, you can use these moments as jumping off points for conversations about the birds and the bees. TV is not there to teach your kid. You are.
