A financial expert explains why even young parents should have a will or trust.;

It's difficult enough for a Mom to think about dying, let alone wondering what will happen to her kids. However, in light of Matilda Rose's absence from Daddy Heath Ledger's will, Mom•Logic turned to probate attorney and Mom Moira Brennan for what Moms need to do now, in case of tragedy.

Finding a lawyer: While hiring a lawyer can be costly, Brennan recommends having a probate attorney work out your wishes if you own real property or have assets worth more than $300,000. The American Bar Association is one way to look for experienced and insured lawyers in your area. DIY trust kits often leave out important information, said Brennan.

Grow Up, Kid!

New British study says parents consider childhood over at 11.

grownup_kid.jpg
Thought your kids were growing up too fast? Good thing you don't live in Great Britain. Half of all British parents call it quits on childhood at 11, according to a new British survey. Yes, at the ripe old age of 11, British youngsters enter that amorphous phase known as "young adulthood." So what does that make 5-year-olds? Pre-teens?

What to do before hitting the not-so-friendly skies with the family.

When we posted The TSA Took Our Baby Food Away, Moms were ticked at the way the TSA is treating some parents. To make traveling more family-friendly, we talked to Nico Melendez, TSA spokesman and father of five, to get the scoop on flying with kids:

1. Look and learn: Nico asks all Moms to visit the TSA Web site to learn the limitations for kid-friendly liquids, like milk and formula.

Handcuffs for Homeschoolers?

California law says homeschooling parents better listen up or head to prison.

handcuffed_mom.jpg

Homeschooling your kids in California? How do you feel about teaching times tables at San Quentin? A state appellate court has ruled that parents must have teaching credentials or risk facing criminal charges.

The ruling caught most homeschoolers off-guard, and now people are freaking out. Homeschool Association of California advised parents not to panic and The Homeschool Legal Defense Association called it "the most regressive law in the nation" and promised to appeal. Do you think the new law is absurd or important to the education of homeschooled students?

Two sisters tackle the topic of AIDS in a new documentary.

The gist of the new documentary, "Please Talk To Kids About AIDS," is this: A 6- and 4-year-old go with their parents to the International AIDS conference in Toronto, and they (not their parents) interview physicians, gay activists, condom distributors, sex toy salespeople and transgender attendees to get the scoop on AIDS and sex.

Boys and girls learn differently—but should they be
taught separately?

An article in the NY Times Magazine reports on the controversy behind segregating the sexes in public schools. While some argue there's proof that students do better when they're not worried about the opposite sex in class, others say it's sending the wrong message. Keep Reading...

To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday,
here are some of the most Mom-friendly reads.

As a nod to "Read Across America Day" and a "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss, aka Theodor Seuss Geisel, here are our top Dr. Seuss books that are fun for kids (and less annoying for Moms):
jackieM.jpgI have read lots of them, but my kids totally take to ABC and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. In addition to being fun, I think they're really good for letter recognition, colors and sounds. Keep Reading...

Jackie's Mom•Logic: I grew up Catholic, but my son's a practicing narcissist.

church_of_jacob.jpg

Narcissism is a common trait in 3-year-olds, right? It's not their fault--at that age, the world really is all about them. But isn't it our job as Moms to show them that there's more to life than their needs and teach them to be mindful of that?

I decided it was time to bring my little guy Jacob to church--and to be perfectly honest, make an appearance there myself on a day that wasn't actually a holiday. So off we went...

When it was time for the reading, I picked up Jacob and whispered, "That man is going to tell us a very important story." Little did I know, the day I picked for our church-going debut was the day the reading was all about 'the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well'. My son smiled smugly while listening intently to the story he thought was being told especially for him.

Oh well, I tried.

Guest blogger and friend of Mom•Logic Rabbi Sherre Hirsch, reacts to a study that says 28% of adults abandon their religion.

Adopting Mom Jackie reports: Older couples get a second (and third, and fourth) chance at parenting.

Some parents turn their grown kids' rooms into a gym, sewing room, even a home theater. But more and more families are actually turning them into nurseries.

adoption_empty_nest.jpg

We've met several Moms lately who--instead of embrace the 'empty nest' when adult kids move out and on with their lives--choose to raise more children. Adoption is a popular choice for Moms like Susan, who adopted son Diego from Guatemala several years after her daughter Jen moved out of the house. Susan and Jen shared their incredible experience with Mom•Logic:

Mom•Logic: What made you decide to become a Mom again 28 years after your first child?

Susan: Something was compelling me--pushing me forward. I was in my 50s and my husband in his 60s--what a decision to make! I think for me I'd always wanted another child. I considered adoption, and then this just took hold. I started researching and it just fell into place. I had to get my husband on board...
