Do some women go overboard to have a baby on a certain date?
A Mom we met recently was determined to have her baby girl today--Leap Year Day--and was willing to induce to make it happen. It's the day she, herself, was born as well as a funny little once-every-four-years birthday.
When women schedule Caesareans and inductions for whatever reason, they actually choose
the birth date for their babies... Keep Reading...

One Mom prefers to wait until the birth to know the gender of her baby.
When we told you about The IntelliGender, a product that claims to predict the sex of your unborn child, it brought out both support and skepticism. One Mom reacts: "The Intelligender sounds like a cool product, but I personally did not find out the gender of either of my kids when I was pregnant. I loved being surprised, and it made labor a lot more fun just knowing I would find out if it was a boy or a girl. After nine months of waiting, I was just busting with excitement over finding out. When the doctor says "it's a boy!" or "it's a girl!" it is so exciting. There is no feeling like this in the world! My mom always said there are very few GOOD surprises in life, and this is one of them. I wholeheartedly agree."

The perfect name can't always be found on a map.
What do you think of Madison, Boston or Dallas—not to visit, but as baby names? One of the latest baby naming trends is by location, like Beckham's son, Brooklyn. Says BabyNames.com founder and Mom•Logic friend Jennifer Moss, "People use place names when they have an emotional bond to fond memories of a particular location. It could be a romantic getaway or the city in which they grew up." But not all city names make good baby names. Here are a few we'd leave off your lists of possibilities.
Top Five City Baby Names to Avoid:
1. Intercourse, Pennsylvania
Instead of commemorating where you conceived your child, this name tells people how you conceived your child.
2. Normal, Illinois
If you're worried whether your child hits all the right milestones, this name is for you. Otherwise, opt for the name "Abnormal" because that's what being named Normal will make them.
3. Boring, Maryland
What's worse: a kid who won't sleep or one that puts you to sleep? Keep Reading...

Some of us Moms want our due dates to fall on a special date, but it's usually not in our control--unless we're Jennifer Lopez.
Jennifer Lopez is a woman who's used to getting her way. According to People, she's thrilled the twins' due date is Feb.14. According to tabloid rumors, she likes the V-Day theme, and the births will easily make the deadline for weekly magazine covers.
So, what will Mama Jenny do if her babies pop on the very unromantic, inconvenient (not to mention, unlucky) Feb. 13? Hopefully, she has texted her twins on their Blackberries (we're sure they must have them) to let them know what's expected of them.
When you were pregnant, did you hope or plan for a specific due date? Why?

What do you get for the woman who has everything except a baby? Why, a gestational carrier, of course!
According to the NY Post's Page Six, the new "get" in the city is not the perfect nanny, but the ultimate surrogate. Alex Kuczynski, a 40-year-old socialite, announced that she and ridiculously wealthy hubby, Charles Stevenson, were using the ol 'her egg+his sperm+another woman's uterus=baby and no stretch marks' trick. Not to be outdone, Vogue's Lauren Davis , 31, thinks that's a splendid idea and is shopping around for her womb to rent too.
We feel for women who experience fertility difficulties—some Moms here have experienced the pain and sadness for themselves. But if the Post, is right in reporting that they're doing it to avoid stretch marks, does that seem a bit too far? Someone better tell them that baby vomit is good for the hair or they're in for a very long childhood. |

Technology for learning a baby’s sex in the womb has been around for years—still some prefer getting the ultimate surprise.
Father-to-be Matthew McConaughey told a reporter at the premiere of Fool's Gold that he and his girlfriend aren’t keen to know the sex of their unborn baby, "No, we're not going to find out until the baby greets the day." So, you know the drill girls, if you're invited to the McConaughey baby shower, please, only neutral colored gifts.
Many, many years ago if someone asked you if you knew the sex of your baby, you'd think they had a screw loose. "How could I possible know that? I’m not a witch!” Now, usually, you find out in
the second trimester. All based on the penis. You either see it or you don't, and that, as they say, is that.
But some of us shun sonogram snooping to be doubly surprised on the big day: “OMG that was living in my body!? OMG it’s a girl!” | | |

After nine months off limits, what were you dying for after giving birth?
Coffee, sushi, wine—just a few of the things that are no no's to knocked up mamas. But after popping out the kid, all bets are off! In fact, some hospitals are so tuned in to mamas needing to chow down that they actually cater to them by providing gourmet meals complete with lobster and champagne!
We asked the Moms around the office what they made a beeline for after having a baby. Most agreed giving up Sushi was tough—so tough for one Mom that she indulged when she was a few weeks away from giving birth. Martinis were a close second—with one Mom in the office lucky enough to have a friend mix some up in her hospital room! And one Mom was craving grilled cheese and fries and a REAL coke (not caffeine free) so bad, she sent her husband across the street for takeout.
Mom•Logic friend and mother of newborn twins, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon shares her post-pregnancy cravings. What were you dying for? Comment below.

Can eating steak or chocolate really determine your unborn child's sex?
Many women turn to the Chinese calendar to plan the sex of their baby, but turning to burgers or ice cream? That's a new one! Researchers from the University of Pretoria in South Africa conducted a study on knocked up mice and found that salty foods and red meat tend to produce boys, while a diet high in sugar leads to female offspring, according to the Daily Mail.
In a recent Mom•Logic Momtourage, Marilyn Kentz told Ericka Rowe, Garcelle Beauvais Nilon (right before popping out her twin boys) and Robyn Fener how her wish to have a girl went to the dogs.
