I think if the dress was a little longer, it would be fine, just not a prom dress. Either way, it would be damn near impossible to find a girl between the ages of 16-18 who would actually benefit from wearing a dress like this. It seems like it would just make for a very unflattering ensemble.

I think that people are forgetting the point of this. It’s about whether or not these dresses are age appropriate for the prom. As a designer, I think these two dresses are actually nice dresses. They are basically like the bandage dresses that the french designer Herve Leger designed and became famous for in the 90s. However, they are not appropriate for a 16-18 year old going to the prom because they are very sexy, womanly form-fitting dresses. They were designed for women, not teenagers. While you are beginning to “blossom” into your womanhood around 16, you still are not a fully realized woman who truly knows and owns their own sexuality in a mature way. You are basically just beginning the journey of understanding your feminine sexuality. And it’s really just on a superficial level (does this boy like me? if I wear certain things will I get attention? etc.) You need that sense of self to be able to pull of wearing this type of dress. So in short, regardless of your personal taste, no these dresses are not appropriate for the prom. There are plenty of options that are stylish, classy, pretty, edgy, or even a little bit sexy (i.e. something strapless)that are age appropriate without being boring, conservative or even childish (which I am sure is probably part of the reason why these girls want to wear some of these dresses. They want to look more “adult” versus childish.)

Also, whatever happened to the idea of doing things that are age appropriate? When I was younger, there was a such thing as adult things and child things. There were lots of things you couldn’t do because you were too young. You had to wait until you were older. And that was because you had to have a certain level of maturity and experience to handle certain situations or to even be able to do certain activities. Those were the things that you looked forward to the most as a child. You couldn’t wait to “grow up” because then you could do those things. They were almost like a rite of passage into adulthood or being more independent. I don’t see dressing as being any different. Adults dress a certain way because they are adults. Children dress a certain way because they are children. There is nothing wrong with that. When you become an adult and more independent, you can do whatever you want. That’s why it’s called being an adult.

it is not prom material. And in some twisted way disgusted 13 has a point. But that is why you grow up, so you do things that U want to do as an ADULT!! If you make the decision to dress like this. This dress is more appropriate for a club than number 4 because if you have long hair, you don’t see the back out and it just seems really short. However, it also seems like the kinda thing most skanks wouldn’t wear panties with tsk tsk! In fact it seems more like the kind of thing sexy Russian girls named Natasha would wear in a movie..right before she pulls out her gun and blows the bad guy away.

Those are FINE.
You just need to learn that we’re not living back in the “Brady Bunch” times,
and we’re not all going to cover up every single inch of our bodies.
If they were showing more skin, I’d agree with you. But they’re not.

Mari, how dare you say that the way a women dresses is “tempting guys to rape them”. Could you be any more misogynistic and patriarchal? Shame on you for buying into the idea that it is the women’s fault if a man rapes them. Rape isn’t about lust or pleasure—it’s about power. Maybe you should actually get an education before you run your mouth about things you obviously don’t understand.

It’s one thing for adult entertainers who are putting themselves out there for money to choose to wear this outrageous crap it is quite another for parents to allow minor children to expose themselves this way. The fact that some see nothing wrong with it is a sign that the pornification of America is well on it’s way with a further downward spiral being inevitable if we don’t returns to having some social standards base on being responsibilty and self respect.

Does anyone else notice that these girls look malnourished? They look very thin which in itself is not a bad thing but the 2 years i went to prom, I saw girls( who were already very fit) try to lose weight just so they could fit into a skin tight dress, Now that can not be healthy, My dress was very beautiful and i got called sexy. at both proms, But you know what i did not starve myself i did not make myself look anyless of a lady. My dresses were floor length and covered most of my cleavage in a very tastful way. And I am a plus sizes girl. Wow imagine a sexy girl who weighs more then 160. wow. But every year around prom time more and more people will drop hints about how thin you should be so you can look sexy in 4 inches of material. I was happy and my friends were to. We went dress shopping together, and all of our families loved our choices. I bought my youngestr friend a prom dress as a gift. Her mom is very strict on dress ( go her) But she approved. All i ask is that can moms and dads if need be encourage their daughters to love who they are and if they sense some insercuitys about prom dress shopping. Do what i did. Go to a dress shop and try on every dress you think you like. Find a cut that makes you feel good and comfortable. Its not fun to dance in shrink wrap. A nicec v neck for a bigger chested girl. A baby doll type top ( my fav.) for a girl with a little extra. You dont need to be a twig in some barely there dress to have fun. Dancing the night away with people who truely care for you and having fun being stupid( with in reason. Bowling at 2 am and Hardees at 3 am. they serve breakfast) Prom is supposed to be a Cinderalla all out princess day so make yourself feel beautiful. Because Big girls rule!!!!! My frineds and i are all over a sizes 10 btw, me being a size 18 and proud because i got it going on.
