Obesity can be caused by a number of factors, not just overeating and laziness. They have actually found a “fat gene”! That is right, you can be genetically predisposed to be overweight. Also, such hormonal/endocrine disorders such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can cause you to be overweight. With PCOS it makes it almost impossible to lose weight, but the only real way to control PCOS is by losing weight. Rough. I find it really crappy that our society reaches out to those that are anorexic and bulemic and call it a disorder, but fail to realize that being overweight can be from a disorder as well. I am not saying surgery is the way to go at her young age, but some of the comments made about obesity by some of you were absolutely ugly!
